White Hat SEO Strategies to Increase Your Web Traffic

Understanding & Using White Hat SEO

If there was a 'good guy' when it came to SEO, it has to be the white hat. Filled to the brim with strategies recommended by search engines such as Google, white hat SEO helps you to rank your website without fear of being blacklisted or loosing rank.

In this article, we're defining what white hat SEO is, plus explaining how you can use some of the most common strategies to increase your website traffic for free.

What is White Hat SEO?

White hat SEO, one of three different SEO types, uses the practices recommended by Google to raise the ranking of websites within search engine results. It's not trying to trick or outsmart a search engine into ranking you higher, but rather following good practices over the long-haul.

It's using organic techniques such as unique written content, site usability, linking within your site and focusing on providing what your audience wants, not a search engine.

White Hat SEO Strategies to Increase Your Website Traffic

When using white hat strategies, there is no risk of your website being penalised by search engines. Here are five white hat SEO techniques you can use on your website to increase your organic (free) traffic:

  1. Create unique and top quality content - aim for a word count of at least 350-400 words per page. Include one focused keyword per page, at least one link to another page on your site and use headings and meta tags well. Take a read of our article How to Optimise Your Web Pages Meta Tags for further information on how to do these.
  2. Ensure your website is mobile friendly - Google places a huge emphasis on providing its users with mobile friendly websites in its search results. All of our websites are mobile friendly, and we're be happy to move your existing site to our CMS.
  3. Get yourself a Google My Business account for free - it's not on your website, but rather something you can do to assist Google to know more about it. Your website will appear more regularly on Google SERPs (hopefully) when you have it.
  4. Do your keyword research - the words and phrases you think people are using to find websites like yours can be considerably different from what they are actually using. Keyword research is the process of identifying exactly what they are using so you can include those keywords within your website content.
  5. Optimse your images and files - search engines cannot read images, so when naming your photos, graphics and files, give them a name which is made of words (even better - with keywords).
